London 4 day itinerary?
I'm about to go to London, and I need to plan an itinerary. I already have a set list of places I want to go and I've grouped them by how close they are to each other, but I'm not sure how much I can fit into the four days. Feel free to add anything else you think I should visit, or take off anything that's not important.
London Eye
Westminster Abbey, Parliament, Cabinet War Rooms
British Museum
Trafalgar Square, National Portrait Gallery, National Gallery
Regent's Park
Natural History Museum, Victoria/Albert Museum
Tower of London, Tower Bridge
Imperial War Museum
Globe Theater
St Paul's Cathedral
Hampstead
Buckingham Palace, Changing of the Guards
Day Trip to either Oxford or Cambridge (or both?)
Maybe Windsor Castle, but Oxford/Cambridge have priority
In terms of time, anything out of London will take the whole day so the day trips to Oxford or Cambridge will take you the whole day.
All the other attractions are ½ day each to be realistic and to do them justice.
To whittle it down, leave out Hampstead. It's very pretty but unless you do it in the afternoon and include the Kenwood evening concert (with picnic), i'd leave it off your itinerary this time.
The museums you could spend all day in each and still miss most of what they have to offer, but realistically a ½ day allocated to each on your list will give you an appetite to return.
When the kids were young we did rainy Sunday mornings at the V&A for a couple of hours and then lunch in the cafe there. They used to have jazz musicians playing and the food was very good and very reasonable.
Only do the London Eye if the weather is good, otherwise it's not worth the time if time is precious. You can always do it on another trip. It's worth the wait until you can really take in the views, then it's spectacular.
