Goldfish Diseases - Important Symptoms to Be Careful of in Your Fish
Goldfish are very prone to deadly diseases and there are a number of ailments which can end the life of your beloved pet goldfish. However, if you are careful in pet care and maintenance and provide clean water and environment for your fish, the onslaught of these diseases can be controlled to a great extent. In fact Goldfish have the potential to live a comparatively long life, from 5 years to 10 years if they are well taken off. But most people lack the basic knowledge regarding goldfish care and maintenance. Therefore they find that their goldfish die within a few months because of some disease or the other.
But how will you know when a fish is ill? The best method in this regard is to monitor the goldfish in your aquarium every day. Moreover, this will also offer you the opportunity to enjoy your fish. If you notice anything unusual in the regular behavior of your fish, you must know that this might be an indication of any disease. So, you will have to do a closer examination of the concerned goldfish before you can rule out the possibility of nay fatal disease. One good thing that you must know is that most goldfish related diseases can be successfully cured if treated at the right time. So you must keep an eye on your dear goldfish on regular basis.
One very common and deadly disease associated with goldfish is Ichtyopthirius which is generally known as Ich. This disease appears in the form of tiny little white spots in the skin and fin of the goldfish. If you do not offer treatment in the initial stages, this disease can turn deadly. Ich is actually parasite which feeds on the body of the fish. These parasites multiply very quickly and can infect all the fish in your aquarium. This is why you must take adequate steps as soon as possible before the disease ruins your entire fish tank. Moreover, it is crucial that whenever you buy a new fish for your aquarium you need to inspect it carefully in order to ensure that it does not carry Ich with it to your fish tank.
Another common goldfish disease is fin rot. This disease is a bacterial infection and generally takes place in a particular injured portion of a fin. So if you have fish in your aquarium which bite your goldfish's fin you must be extra careful in watching out for this disease. Carefully monitor the fins of your goldfish on a regular basis to notice any sigh of fin rot. If left untreated fin rot can kill your goldfish very quickly.
There are some goldfish who naturally posses big bulging eyes. However, there is a goldfish disease which is known as Popeye. It can happen to goldfish as well as to other species of fish in your aquarium. If you happen to see that the eyes of your fishes are sticking out a little bit more than what is normal then it is good for you to put that fish in a separate hospital tank and do not allow other fish to come in its contact until it is cured.

Where is a good place to find very cheap untreated lumber?
It doesn't need to be fancy or aesthetically pleasing at all. I will just need a few boards. I'm in Chico California for what its worth.
any place that does shipping might have skids.. the wooden 'floors' that the forklifts use.... or maybe you can get some at the lumber area of a HomeDepot or Lowe's or other home store.....
